Cara Frankowicz

Cara Frankowicz is a classically trained violinist who was inspired to play Irish traditional music after a trip to Ireland as a teenager. Originally from Harrisburg, PA, Cara would travel frequently to Philadelphia to participate in sessions and learn from the renowned fiddle and accordion duo of John Brennan and John McGillian.

But it was while living in Galway, Ireland that Cara developed a truly distinct style of playing Irish traditional music. She draws her influences from session musicians in
Ireland, her studies with fiddler Brendan Larrissey and at the Irish World Music Centre at the University of Limerick, and of course the Irish music scenes in Philadelphia and
Boston.

As a performer, Cara has played extensively on the East Coast, Ireland, and Europe,
including the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and the annual Philadelphia Irish Festival.
She also tours the U.S. frequently with the Nashville-based Irish rock band Ceili Rain.

Cara is a former teacher with the Galway School of Irish Traditional Music in Ireland,
who now tutors students both privately and in group settings at festivals and workshops.

Cara is currently a student at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where she is
pursuing a degree in violin performance. She is thoroughly involved in Boston's large
Irish traditional music scene and has played frequently with the various members of
Halali. Her exposure to the many different fiddle styles coexisting in Boston is truly
evident in Cara's unique and exciting fiddle playing.
